The Product & Costing Manager is a senior operational leader responsible for protecting project margins through accurate pricing, strategic vendor management, and disciplined procurement oversight. This role sits at the intersection of design, sales, and construction, ensuring selections are cost-aligned, estimates are precise, materials are ordered correctly, and vendor relationships are optimized for performance and profitability. This is a high-accountability position requiring strong financial acumen, systems thinking, and cross-functional leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Costing & Estimating
- Develop and maintain accurate cost databases
- Review and validate all project estimates before approval
- Identify margin risks and cost discrepancies
- Collaborate with sales and design to ensure budget alignment
Vendor & Procurement Management
- Build and manage strategic supplier relationships
- Negotiate pricing and improve rebate/margin opportunities
- Standardize product offerings where appropriate
- Oversee purchasing, order accuracy, and delivery timelines
Operational Alignment
- Coordinate with design and construction to ensure selections are constructible and cost-viable
- Prevent scope gaps and change order exposure
- Maintain documentation accuracy across all active projects
Performance Metrics
- Estimate accuracy
- Margin protection
- Vendor pricing improvements
- Order accuracy and on-time delivery
Qualifications
- 5 or more years in construction estimating, purchasing, or cost control
- Strong understanding of residential remodeling materials and pricing structures
- Experience negotiating with vendors and managing supplier relationships
- Close attention to detail and financial discipline
- Process-oriented mindset with strong organizational skills
- Proficiency with estimating and project management software
Pay and Benefits
- Full-time, W-2 Employment
- Pay: $25 to $30 per hour, based on experience
- Performance-based bonuses are paid quarterly based on estimate accuracy, margin performance, and procurement efficiency.
- Health insurance with 75% of the premium paid by the company (eligible after 60 days)
- IRA with 3% company match (eligible after 1 year)
- 2 weeks PTO after 1 year
- Sick time accrued at 1 hour per 40 hours worked
- Mileage reimbursement provided for jobsite and vendor travel.
